Surcharge

The implementation and maintenance of the statewide Enhanced 9-1-1 system is funded by a monthly surcharge on all subscriber wire line and wireless telephone numbers in Maine. The statute governing the surcharge can be found in 25 MRSA§2927, sub-§§ 1-B and 2-B.

April 2008 Surcharge Change

Please be advised that the Maine State Legislature has reduce the amount of the E9-1-1 surcharge you are required to collect and submit to the State of Maine.  See Maine Public Law 2008, Chapter 637, (LD 2265), An Act to Reduce the Amount Collected for the Purpose of the E-9-1-1 System, effective April 16, 2008.

Effective on your next billing cycle you are directed to reduce the amount of surcharge collected from $.50 to $.30 per line or number/per month.
